This is one Seagate ST2000LM009 hard drive capacity 0 firmware repair and data recovery case study.

This patient drive was not properly detected and the capacity was 0 and no data is accessible and there’re no typical com terminal messages of head damage.

To fix the capacity 0 firmware issue, users need to fix the translator corruption.

Before translator repair, users need to backup the rom, generate unlock rom, write unlock rom, power off and on, send unlock key to unlock the firmware area and next users need to back up the most important nglist.

Next users need to clear glist and regenerate translator. If com terminal repair doesn’t work, users can regenerate translator in ATA mode.

Next users need to fix the data encryption issue by DFL-Seagate hdd repair tool.

Seagate hard drive translator regeneration is one very important firmware repair function within all Seagate firmware repair tool.

There’re two modes for Seagate hdd translator regeneration:
01: Translator regeneration in ATA mode;
02: Translator regeneration in COM mode.

Within COM terminal, users need to enter F3 T> to use m0,6,3,,,,,22 command to regenerate translator. But please note: users need to think carefully before using the command. Users need to clear g-list, need to reset smart, need to check the HDD failure symptoms, need to backup important firmware modules, etc.

In some cases, translator regeneration may cause partial sector access issue or data shifting issue and in many cases, users don’t need translator regeneration to fix the cases and recover the lost data. So don’t always use the translator regeneration command.

In some heads read-only cases, users need to use translator regeneration in ATA mode and access to the data area.

Within DFL Seagate hdd firmware repair tool, users can easily use the ATA translator regeneration under defects management and this one is very helpful.

To fix above patient drive, the user used DFL Seagate hdd repair tool to backup rom, generate unlock rom, write unlock ROM, power off and on, send unlock key, backup important SYS files, clear g-list, regenerate translator, etc.

After fixing the firmware area, the users tested the data area and found there’re some bad sectors in the front, the middle and ending parts of data areas were accessible.

The user set up head map, edited the LBA range to image the patient hdd by heads within DFL-DDP data recovery equipment and finally most data was recovered, only some system files were missing which are not important at all.

Seagate 24 1A and sEDU data recovery cases are common in Seagate rosewood LM series, all data recovery engineers can use DFL Seagate hdd repair tool and DFL-DDP data recovery equipment to get the lost data back from these patient drives suffering 24 1A or sEDU failure.

24 1A or sEDU is the error indication shown in the hex area and when the hex data contains these errors, the files cannot be opened successfully.

The key to fix Seagate 24 1A or sEDU cases is to backup the original NGlist, translator and primary defect list.

What causes these 24 1A or sEDU errors?

These errors come after translator regeneration, users need to be very careful when trying to regenerate translator, specially for rosewood EB01 hard drives. Sometimes if there’re some bad sectors, the 24 1A or sEDU errors may not be fixed completely.

Weak heads cause 24 1A or sEDU errors too. This kind of case has usually single weak head but the patient hdd is still detected correctly. The hdd data area can be accessed but slow and when trying to view the hex area, users can see 24 1A or sEDU indicators and these sectors are not correct and files of these sectors cannot be opened successfully.

With original NGLIST, it’s not difficult to fix the 24 1A or sEDU issue by DFL Seagate hdd repair tool. For weak heads causing the 24 1A or sEDU errors, users usually need to swap heads by Seagate LM Head Replacement Tool to get all data. Before head swap, users can check the imaged data, sometimes the 24 1A or sEDU files may be not important at all and then no need to swap heads.

Within the new DFL-DDP data recovery software, users can simply set the 241A or sEDU sector mark to start the image and image all possible sectors before processing the 24 1A or sEDU repair. After repair, users just need to image the 24 1A or sEDU sectors again.
