POST–Acronym for Power-On Self-Test. The BIOS executes a series of tests each time a PC initializes which are known as POST. These tests check primary areas of the system including the motherboard, video and drive system, and keyboard and ensure that all components can be used safely. POST reports a fault with a series of beeps or a hexadecimal code written to an I/O port.
